Heating (and cooling) with free renewable energy

As a homeowner, you can be annoyed by the ever-increasing prices of fossil fuels or become independent with the VarioEnergy system, relying on state-of-the-art, sophisticated technology.
When it comes to combining heating cost savings and environmental responsibility, heat pump heating is the first choice because the energy used is provided by nature in an unlimited and free manner. A heat pump makes you largely independent of fossil fuels and therefore actively contributes to reducing CO2 emissions. In addition, it offers the most efficient type of electrical heat generation: up to four kilowatt hours of heat are generated from one kilowatt hour of electricity using free environmental heat. The use of heat pumps can also significantly increase the self-consumption rate of solar power systems.
The Viessmann split (air/water) heat pumps from the Vitocal series are impressive right from the start due to their low investment costs and the use of energy from the ambient air. The integrated hot water tank ensures maximum hot water comfort. Thanks to the modulating mode of operation, the output is adapted exactly to the actual heat requirement. The “active cooling” cooling function makes it possible to additionally air-condition the test house in summer.
The way in which the electricity required for operation was produced is crucial for the eco-balance of heat pumps. Ideally, this is self-generated electricity, which is why our test home, like every building equipped with the VarioEnergy system, produces its own electricity thanks to the integrated photovoltaic system.
We chose the Braas photovoltaic in-roof system PV Premium because it not only generates environmentally friendly solar power, but also impresses in terms of design and appearance. The modules are integrated into the roof instead of roof tiles, resulting in a completely straight, harmonious cover pattern, which earned the system the renowned design award “red dot: best of the best”.

The Energy Saving Ordinance (EnEV) obliges the outer shell of buildings to be permanently airtight. This is good for your wallet and the environment because heat losses are significantly reduced.
But in order for us to feel completely comfortable, we need fresh and unused air, a food that is just as important as, for example, clean water. It therefore needs to be ventilated, but window ventilation would negate the heating cost savings achieved through the tight construction. The VarioEnergy system therefore relies on a modern ventilation system with heat recovery.

Optimal energy efficiency thanks to intelligent system control

The prerequisite for optimal interaction between the heat pump and the photovoltaic system is sophisticated control technology, in the case of our test home a Vitotronic 200 WO1C from Viessmann.
This control uses an energy meter to record whether the photovoltaic system supplies sufficient electricity; the heat pump then heats the heating or drinking water or cools the building. The energy generated in this way during the day is then available in the well-insulated hot water tank as domestic hot water and for room heating when it is needed. Thanks to the optimal operation of the heat pump, the self-consumption of the self-generated solar power is increased, and any excess produced is automatically loaded into the battery storage.

For our test home, we chose the Thermo 76 premium front door, which completely impressed us in terms of security, stability, thermal insulation and design. Here, too, burglary protection is the main focus: no burglar can easily get past the extra-strong steel reinforcement, the particularly heavy branded hinges and the integrated lever protection. The self-locking automatic multi-point lock and the Janus profile cylinder with drill protection and emergency and danger function offer additional security (the door can be unlocked from the outside despite having a key on the inside).
In the living/dining area, a Thermo Slide sliding door offers comfortable, barrier-free access to the terrace. Here too you will find convincing quality, safety, ease of use and thermal insulation that is hard to beat thanks to triple glazing, coupled with a timeless, aesthetic look.

We chose the innovative material “Quaryl” for both the ultra-flat “Futurion flat” shower tray and the “Oberon” bathtub (which can also be installed free-standing). This gives the high-quality, non-slip tubs a particularly elegant shine that lasts forever. The surface of the bathtub always feels pleasantly warm and the water does not cool down so quickly. Added to this is the ease of care: Since hardly any dirt sticks to the non-porous, smooth surface, Quaryl tubs are very easy to clean.

Ideal light sources in the bathroom are illuminated mirrors such as the “More to See 14”. Equipped with LEDs, the light can be easily dimmed and therefore always offers the right brightness when shaving, hairdressing or applying make-up. The color of the LED light can be freely adjusted – from warm white to cool white and vice versa.
Nice additional effect: The modern LED lights have a long service life, are energy-saving and maintenance-free. The lighting is integrated horizontally in the upper area of ??the mirror so that optimal illumination is provided.

For the main bathroom of our test home, we chose a ShowerSelect concealed shower control. The two showers can be easily switched on and off using flush-mounted select buttons. The buttons are easy to read and particularly durable due to the exclusive use of mechanical components. The shower control technology is in the wall, more precisely in the so-called iBox. This separation into two components, in front of and behind the wall, ensures even more freedom of movement in the shower.
